Hey,

So i've recently got myself a Fluval 1000 Profile. Measurments 39" L x 18" D x 24" H.

I have had some mixed opinions about the fish i'm looking to stock just wondered what you guys thought?

1x Electric Blue Jack dempsey
1x rotkeil severum
1x Peacock/spiny eel
Some shoaling/dither fish

I would love a red spotted or golden severum but I know the rotkeil grows a couple of inches shorter so maybe the only option. Also the EBJD apparently only grows to 8" as opposed to the 10" of a normal JD.

I have been told that although the capacity of my tank is fine the fact that its not a 48" long means that I shouldn't get the EBJD or Rotkeil Sev.

I do see the point but I also thought that the height of the tank might be more beneficial to the Severum than the extra 9" in length would.

On the otherhand i'd rather hear from people with experience with these fish.

Thanks
Matt

I like your idea with the severums, personally I'd get two and just spice up the tank with decor like driftwood and natural stuff.

I would leave the dempsey and sev out and go for something that maxes out at 6 inch

Ok so thinking a pair of electric blue acaras and 2/3 red hump eartheaters? Again with a spiny eel and a group of dither fish.

Don't know about the eel but the acaras would be a good choice, there's lots of cichlids in that sort of size range with personality and looks

The eel im lookong at only grows to 6" and I have some large quartz rock full of tunnels for the eel. Really peaceful species. Love the look of Geos. Just not sure about how much would be classed as overstocked:

So lets say this stocklist

2x Electric Blue acaras (6 inch each max)
2x Redhump Geos (6 inch each max)
1x Spiney eel (6inch max)
1x Peppermint plec (6 inch max)
