Ok, i am really tempted to mix the two. Love the idea. I found that 50/50 of people say dont, some say its ok.
the tank is 1200Litres,
2100 x 720 high x 830 w

there would and are plenty of logs and hiding spots and can add more at the bottom to ensure they have hiding spots, can make spots where the big fella cant go into for the smaller one.

How will they fight, is it a persistant fight intended to kill, or is it more, 'get out of my cave and area' fight and will be left alone?

if i try it, how likely will i find the smaller one dead the next day?

i love this idea and this is ideal for my set up, but scared as the fire eel is a pellet eatingfuture monster!! dont wanna lose it and the tt eel is a monster, literally 72 cm or more!

good question....i was wondering about mixing multiple fire eels and or other spiny eels... hopefully someone with first hand experience will chime in.... by the way, you got any pics?

They will usually fight especially if one has been in the tank for a while. I had three smaller tt eels and the largest one eventually stress the other 2 out and died. Recently I tried to put a fire eel with a tt eel and the fire eel never was left along. Spiny eels are know to be territorial. But in a store situation, all the eels are introduced at once or in a large group will not usually fight. Good Luck.

I had no major issues with my 3 fire eels. they where all introduced at the same time and same size. atm I have 2 M Dayi together, the one has significantly outgrown the other and the smaller will be seperated and bulked up here in the next few days. I have NEVER heard of a TT and Fire eel kept together long-term with luck.... sometimes they will work for a few monthes then you hear of one or the other jumping from the tank. My experiance with this behavior is due to stress... they are not dumb fish, I've only had jumpers when something in the environment was off. I never advise keeping 2 spineys together ( though I do it I am also prepared to seperate permenetly if needed and caution those who intend to try to be prepared as well, I am hoping to obtain a pair not just keep pets. at first I tried to find anothe M dayi but have been unable too. I believe the smaller ones size is due to stress/inable to get enough food) I have however had great success mixing groups of 3 or 5 spineys of the same species.

TT's are also ime the most aggressive of the spineys I've run into. which makes them excellent pets as they seem to be very keen to hand-feed and interact but a poor choice in trying to keep more then one in a tank.

The best simple way I can describe spiney eels aggression ect is I treat mine much like Cichlids, ones that won't bother other species.. just con-specifics. either have 1.. or have a few so no single fish can "take over"
