I have a thread with photo's of my 72gallon i was setting up http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?424540-new-native-72bowfront-and-56. Thought you guys might like to see some update photos of the 72gal. Current stocklist: 2 Yellow perch, 1 Black crappie, 1 White sucker, 1 Pumpkinseed sunfish, 2 smaller unknown sunfish (possibly both dollar sunfish) and 2 Shiners (1 i believe is a spottail shiner and the other im unsure) :headbang2
I'd like if you guys could help me I.D the two smaller sunfish. Im sure the small sunfish (2" about) in pictures 7 and 9 is a Dollar sunfish but not too sure. Aswell im having a hard time i'ding the sunfish in photo's 3, 10, 15; it appears to be a dollar sunfish but it has more orange dots and has brighter red and orange fins. The two shiners in 7 and 9 i need help i'ding aswell. Im sure one is a spottail shiner and the other possibly a river shiner? The large female perch in photo 4 is the largest fish in the tank, and the fish i've had the longest. 1

I like it a lot. A buddy and I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a small crappie for his native setup with no luck. Yours looks great.

You have a very nice looking tank!

thanks guys. anyone have a crack at i.ding the two sunfish??? haha. Jmart159 he is a very sweet fish, he is only about 6-7" long now, he is always the first fish to strike food and he is also trained on freeze dried food not pellets yet. I feed them frozen blood worms, live earthworms cut up every couple weeks, also i feed them some freeze dried medley, occasional minnow and also in wintertime they get waxworms etc.

Do the mystery sunnies have long, pointed pectoral fins like a bluegill, or short rounded ones like a pumpkinseed? I can't really tell from the photos.

they are short and rounded, both of them have blue and orange cheeks. the small one i think might be a dollar sunfish doesnt have much colour on the body but visible horizontal bars; and an orange tinted anal fin. the other which i have no clue has orange and blue cheeks with faint orange spots on it and redy orange anal fin and top fin aswell

whoo what lake did you catch these beauties at? Also is there a pet store you can purchase native fish at?

Let me say right off, sorry I can't help you id your fish, that being said...

Your tank is just lovely. Very nice job on the planting and decor, very natural looking, also love the mix of fish species.

I dont have much experience with keeping natives but would like to one day. Do you have much aggression in this tank? Do you forsee aggression when they get older? I don't see any ripped, torn, fins so I'm assuming it's not too bad atm, but what happens when they grow up?

Thank Izzy, I really tried hard to stay as natural as i could (i've never kept any tropical or non native fish due to lack of interest). All the rocks and sand as well as the two driftwood peices were taken from lakes. I only have had slight aggression for a day or two when the young yellow perch had a slight annoyance with the black crappie always claiming the underside of the log, the crappie still claims it and they dont fight anymore. I've never had aggression with any of the other fish, the sucker doesnt notice the other fish. Each fish has his own area, i believe the amount of cover and the temperature has alot to do with it. My tank is kept in my basement so the water is probably 60f, its 65f in my house now. The white sucker is getting to big for the tank already he is too active haha, so he is going in my 500+gallon pond in the backyard and will hang out with the goldfish. I plan on upgrading to a 125, ill keep the same stock with maybe one more crappie and a few more sunfish when they get older.

1xalpha i caught the sunfish and the crappie in a small un named local pond the perch and white sucker were netted in a lake drainage, shiners were caught on a pickeral rig in the river.
