well its possible with the right fish. All fish have different personalities. Like people your cichlid might not care about another but if you add a species it could go aggressive.

Personally I would try maybe a Managuense , Istlanum, and a vieja species like a Synspilum, hartwegi or zonatus. You have to try combos though. Add some dither fish too. I find cats work well as they draw attention from cichlids but they rarely go after the cats. So maybe small group of pictus cats. Plus the add motion and are astetically appealing.

You could house a pair of just about any Amphilophus or Parachromis... and have enough space to add a divider if necessary. Although I hate the idea of a "show tank" with a divider permanently...

I bought a 6' 125 gal many years ago and first used it as a "large Cichlid community tank"... having tried combination after combination it now holds smaller docile Cichlids... In my experience large/aggressive Cichlids just don't do the community thing very well in a 6' tank...

If you ever decide to tame it down a knotch consider Apistos, Rams and Geos... in the mean time best of luck deciding...

i got synspilum, dempsey, and two gold sevs. works perfect in a 72x18x23. all fish are pretty decent size too so like someone else said a vieja might be cool. fish are all different so u never know but thats just my experience
