Here it is parents have given into another tank only if its a saltwater ,but is foreign water to me and need help.
I will hopefully starting a 75 gallon Fowlr setup and need your help along the way. Im on a limited Budget
I will be purchasing the following and need input.
-Standard 75 Gallon Tank
-2215-37 Plus Ehiem Canister Filter up to 93 Gallons
-Coralife Aqualight T5 Series Fluorescent Saltwater 48" 28watts
-Red Sea Prizm Deluxe Skimmer
-Instant Ocean Dydrometer
-Instant Ocean Salt Blend 50 Gallons
-Prop Pump with Magnet Mount
-Visi-Therm Stealth 250 Watt Heater
-Reef Master Test Kit

Question I have
Is pool filter sand okay with live rock or does it need to be live sand?
If I am missing anything or believe I should use something else feel free to put in input.

IMO the sand shout be fine, the Live sand jsut helps with BB levels. Make sure you have good, cured Live Rock and the filter sand will become live sand with time. If you want a time line of the set up of mine (reef, AGA 180gal, dual overflow) fell free to PM me

well if it's just a FOWLR, then you dont need the T5 lights and the reef test kit

standard lighting and a SW master kit would be fine...

you'll also need at least 75 gallons worth of salt.. and either another or larger heater

I chose the T5 setup because it looks good in my freshwater and was only $60.00.With the heater how many watts should I be looking at.
With the list I came up am I missing anything important?

T5 NO's are cheap and look fine for FOWLR. I avoid pool sand because of most manufacturing methods for it. A lot of silicate which will affect your water. With use of pool filter sand, i have noticed an increase in phosphate levels and of course with that comes more algae. If you interested in purchasing this type of sand, make sure its not silicate based nor phosphate enriched. 350 watts should be enough for the heater, and with all the pumps you have your temp should be stable. I don't need to use heaters even in winter (Wisconsin) and I don;t notice any issues.

Good luck

Here is when I did my first SW tank, I did a diary.

Several things I've learned.
1. NEVER use Crushed coral, you'll regret it when you have to pull it out.
2. Buy a good skimmer fom the begining, don't waste your money on a cheap one.
3. Buy cured Live Rock or you will have a mess.
4. As you add livestock go SLOW and be careful of the order you put them in
5. Set up a bare 20g tank to Quarantine all new fish to make sure they are healthy
6. Buy a Refractometer not a cheap plastic Hydrometer (THEY can be WAY OFF)

Hope all this helps.
