Ok so I've been looking all over online to find info if my 75 gal will break the floor. I live on the 2nd floor of a 2 storie apartment. I have a stand that I bought with my 75 gallon from petsmart but I was thinking about just having the tank on the floor with no stand, because it would look better and I think it would distrubute the weight better. I'm worried that having this 75 gallon setup on the floor of my 2nd floor apartment may cause damage to the floor and ruin everything. I know about how much water weighs and I've been all over online looking so if someone with good expirience could help me that'd be great! Keep in mind its a apartment so it might not be as strong as everyones house. Thanks for the help and merry christmas!

I live on the first floor with a basement below my entire floor. Very old house I think close to 100 years

I have a 90g in one room, a 75 in another, and a 125 in another.

I wouldn't worry about putting a 75 on a stand

With a 75 your not going to have any issues. If you have a tendency to fall through the floor when your walking around the house then you may want to reconsider. But the stand spreads out the weight and isn't a big deal.

Once you get over 150 though is when you need to start being much more careful. I'm currently setting up a 300 gallon on a 2nd floor. I already have a 55 gallon and 2 x 20 gallons in another part of the house. All my tanks are located directly above support beams so they are very strong.

Your best choice with a 2nd floor is to put the tank close to the wall as that is where the floor is the strongest. If you have an option of putting it above or near a support beam then thats an even better option for peace of mind.

A corporate construction company owner/friend told me a 55 is fine anywhere in the house. If the floor is not concrete or solid wood beams, a 75 would probably be fine against a load bearing wall.

Do you know which way the beams on the floor go?

I live on the second floor of a condo. I do not know what my floor is made of, but it looks like plaster. I have two 75s, a 25, a 16g and a 12g in one room, with the 75s against two different load bearing walls. So far so good.

I have planed to put it by the wall anyway so that won't be a problem. Thanks for the posts btw I'm feelin a lot better with it now.

I just remembered you were thinking of placing the tank on the floor. If so, I would put styro or cork board under it. Most floors are not as level as they may appear. The tank may not distribute weight evening and may put stress on parts when seated on the floor. The is designed to hold the tank level. If the floor is not level, you could put cardboard or something similar under the feet of the stand to level it out.

The key is to have it against a load bearing wall as mentioned above. I would also see if you can find out which way the floor joists go and position the stand/tank to go opposite of the joists. You could also get some 1"X8" and put them underneath your stand to distribute the weight better.

All that being said, I really don't think you will have a problem!

I want to see a 300 on the second floor, sounds like disaster waiting to happen.

i have a 55 10 60 all in my room i am still ok
