Just opened my 75 gal chemicals planning on getting some plants shortly to, wondering which water chemicals i need currently just using Aqua safe any other recommendations to keep it clear or keep away water discolor, in my last tank i was doign water changes once a week and water still got a little yellow?

Also how often on a 75 gal tank should i change the filter packets and how often should i do water changes in this tank..

Not sure what aquasafe is, but the only chemical you need(unless your fish are sick and you are dosing meds) is water conditioner. Prime by seachem isn't bad.
People generally do water changes once a week. I do 40-50% at a time although you can do less if you have a low bioload
Do you have any driftwood in your tank? They leech tannins(do not have harmful effects on fish), which can give your water a brownish tint. It will go away eventually by itself, or you can boil the driftwood in water.

yes i do have drift wood i am going to boil it.... ill try that, aqua safe is jsut a conditioner so just drop the water doing about 50% a week and fill it back up.. sry new to bigger sized tanks :) also.. as for gravel cleaner waht works best... just liek a syphone hose type deal...?

You can try getting a hose that connects from the tank directly to the sink(picture)

Or you can try a garden hose from home depot if you want to save money.
You can vacuum the gravel while doing a water change at the same time :D

AquaSafe is fine. I've used it also for my frogs water. If your noticing a color in the tank then get some carbon. It will take the color out. Replace it every 2-4 weeks. Most people don't use carbon, but it's great for this reason which you seem to need. You really don't need any more chemicals besides the conditioner.

What's your stock. 50% water changes a week are a good starting point. Don't change the filter packets just swoosh them in the aquarium water when your doing a water change. As in when you take the water out and it's in the bucket this is when you "swoosh" the packets in the water. Every few weeks is fine.

bullehad, 2 sunfish and a LMB, so your saying never replace the packets or how often.... every 3 weeks? also can you get carbon at local fish store usually or? and what is it... a liquid?

You can get a 50 foot garden hose at home depot for $10 :P Just make sure it fits into the sink or get an adapter. I bought a 25' drinking safe hose for $13 just because a 50' hose was too bulky.

I never actually replace my filter cartridges, had them for a year now. You have beneficial bacteria growing on them and getting a new cartridge means you're throwing away all the bacteria. As mentioned above just clean it in a bucket of tank water. What he meant was clean it in the water every few weeks, not replace it every few weeks. Carbon looks like black gravel(but is a completely different thing), chances are you have some inside your filter cartridge.
