In my opinion, if you go with a single flowerhorn I would go with something that's high quality. Some of the common ZZ ones are cool and all but if it's going to have a tank all to himself, I would want him to be a stunner.

is there any question, I promise a solo fh will have 10 times the personality that a community tank would , fish on there own like that interact with you way more,

or if it was me i would do a 125 fh pr and call it a day ....
as far as quality who cares beauty is in the eye of the beholder, go to pet smart and save some so called red texas lol there all flower horn mutts but they can turn out really nice.
take all that cash you were gonna spend on some "high quality" and double up on your filtration ,

I have 2 high quality ones in a 125 with a divider... so that's some kind of community. :)

Another guy on the forum had a breeding pair in a similar setup; so one side was the pair while the other side had a single monster. If I remember correctly his was a 150 though.

Its possible for them to pair and make viable fry but the odds of it happening is up in the air. If you are gonna go the flowerhorn route might as well get quality one not from your local store otherwise I would go community route. You could get a few quality fry to grow out and keep the best.

I've seen a very nice looking JD FH hybrid before
convict FH hybrids are kind ugly IMO.
Check out aquabid. Theres tons of FH THERE. Also FLOWERHORNS FROM BEYOND has some nice ones
