Ok, i have a 75 gal with 2 penguin 350s. have 1 small red devil and a pleco.
I was looking to loose the HOBs all together but am thinking thats not a good idea. I dont like bubble walls/disk so i will need something to give the water aeration. What other options is there
Was looking at the fil star xp3, but would i have to keep a HOB anyway for aeration?

My fluval 404 canister has the return that is adjustable. I keep it slightly above the water line to create water movement/aeration. I think the xp3's return is set up a little different (the return sits lower, in the water) so it may not be able to put above the water level.

Yeah the XP3 returns a few inches under the water. The plastic return is anchored via suction cup(s). I guess you could raise it a bit though. It would look pretty ghetto though - not sure if I would use it for aeration (would be rather loud).

i have an xp3 and i love it.

alls you gotta do is push the spray bar "Up" at an angle and for me its made plenty water movement.

very good advice..
