Would I 75 gallon tank be a big enough tank for a orange pike? Their would be 1-2 more similar sized cichlids with it, maybe a ground feeder, maybe even some dithers. But the ground guys and dithers arent important lol.

Don't have the tank yet... hypothetical. I just think pikes look ****ing cool. I wanted one back in the day when I first started fish keeping... at the time I didn't know what they were though. So I went home, looked it up, and realized they get 10+ inches and would eat everythign in my tank lol.

The reason I saw orange pike is because I *think* I can get those locally.

I tried searching... "75" isnt searchable lol

Depending on what you keep with it, I would say yes.
I kept one for 3-4 years in a 55. It was 10-11 inches when I lost it.

I believe it would be doable. They get in the 14" range as adults, and most 75gal tanks are 18" wide standard. Its better to have wider tanks when keepin pikes...;). Depth isn't really an issue, as they are lateraly compressed, but width and lenght of the tank are very importat. If your pike can't turn around, problems soon follow.

Granted the sp 'xingu I' is probably gonna be the dominant fish in that tank, but if your okay with that...bring it. You do know that the way they look as juv. IS NOT what they are gonna look like as adults. Dependin on the gender, they can be strikin or rather drab. Both are attractive though, so no worries.

Yeah I know they change colors. I don't really care lol. It is the shape they have that is cool to me.

The tank mate (if I go with this set up that is... change my mind every day) will likely be a green terror and *maybe* another cichlids (at least while young).

Yes the tank is 18 inches wide

Tell them to order you in some Saxatilis pikes. They will most likely get in either Crenicichla sveni, lucius, or anthurus (not likely). They generally stay smaller than the Lugubris group pikes, and TEND to be less aggressive. Still just as attractive! If you look at CFB's thread in here about IDing some pikes, he posted some pictures of anthurus..;)

thanks for all the help pnut

is there somewhere online that stocks pikes often?

Check out our vendors loung in the Buy/Sell Forum...

Creatures From Below - Randy

Shark Aquarium - George

Tangled Up In Cichlids - Jeff

Just to name a few. All three of which have pikes at the moment. Randy has the Anthurus though...;)
