I would like a very active tank full of small and med cichlids with lots of driftwood, plants and rocks, but have a hard time knowing what would work. also some catfish 2 The tank is 48x18 so give me some ideas

gymnos and pikes  thats how my 75g will be, and how my 55g currently is. im getting a pleco and some more gymnos from ken when he gets back next week from uruguay.

i second the gymnos i have gymnos and tetras in my 58 gallon and when i get around to puttin my 75 back up thats what will be in it with a new plec of course

I was thinking maybe more traditional in jd,gt,con,fm, and any other i might have missed in combos.

Firemouth, Sajica, Salvini, Jewel Cichlid, Blue Acara. I'd go with South American Bumble Bee Catfish, or some Synodontis species like Schoutedeni. Throw in some danios or tetras as dithers.

with a 75g if you want more than 2 fish then i would stay away from the gt or anything else that gets 10in, cons n firemouths are fine but i personally like something more colorful, like pyramid suggested sajicas n jewels are nice you could have a pair of both in a 75 with dithers and territories on opposite sides of tank with sight breaks and MAYBE even a single salvini, dont really know about blue acaras so cant say anything about them, salvinis are very cool fish but very fiesty so not sure what you could have with it, maybe if didnt work with the jewels you could do a sajica pair and 1 salvini with some kind of dither and a pictus would be a nice catfish that wouldnt get too big and IME is bossy enough to hold is own and is pretty much ignored

I have a breeding pair of GT's and a breeding pair of salvini's along with in a 55gallon long.

No damage and no trouble.

Just throwing it out there to note, that you can get either lucky or unlucky with the specimens, and sometimes combos work and sometimes they don't. Really, all you can do is try things out and see how it works, that's probably the best advice you can get!

yes this would definitely be max and you will need really good filtration, but you may get lucky and get fish that all get along but personally i would leave out the fm

Impulse buy!! bought a freddie couldnt resist..sooo does this mean im all done for the 75? is there anyway for tankmates? or should I just enjoy my new single wet pet.
