so i want to try my very first african tank and i was thinking mbuna or malawi, i need some general info. Also i want to know the amount of fish i can fit in the 75 gallon.

75gal will be a great African setup to start out with plenty of room for them to grow up in.. Mbuna and Malawi are the same actually its Lake Malawi with a fish species called Mbuna would be the correct way to say it which will be a lot of species to choose from..

The hard part will be what do you want in aggression wise do you want a least aggressive tank or a really aggressive tank which would fall in this group with Mbuna..

Aquascape would be either a fine gravel or sand substrate with a lot of rocks built in conjunction with caves to provide hiding spots and relief from aggression..

At any rate there is a ton of species to choose from you could try going to this site http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/category.php?cat=2 for info on species also they have suggestions as well..

Good luck my friend i hope you have fun setting up this tank enjoy..

I just set up my first African tank. It's great! You'll have lots of fun!

If you want Mbuna, go with 6 species - 1 male and 4 females of each species for a total of 30 Mbuna.

Or, I would look into doing an all male Peacock tank.
