Me and my roommate set up our 75gallon saltwater predator tank about 2 months ago and this is what it looks like so far. We have a Rena XP3 and Reef Octopus BH-100 protein skimmer for filtration and a koralia for extra flow. Tank has around ~45lbs of Live Rock which we plan on adding more soon. Stock List so far is a 6.5" Clown Grouper which we were lucky enough to buy for only 30$ from our LFS, a blue damsel that's still survived since adding the grouper (he ate the other 3), a coral beauty that is most likely just a temporary addition, and various snails, hermits, and a starfish for a clean up crew. We plan on adding a lionfish, either a zebra dwarf or an antennae and an eel which will most likely be the 14" purple-mouth moray that one of our LFS has had for some time.

Got rid of my BB as he was to big...

Looks good.

Based on your goals for this aquarium, I would add a large sump in order to hold even more live rock & maybe even a refugium as that XP3 isn't going to be enough once those fishes start growing some more. Canister filters are not recommended for saltwater systems and tend to function as nitrate factories if the wrong media is used; they're better off being used as reactors in a saltwater setting.

Like what wiggles said, sumps are the way to go. Especially with the bio load as your clown grows, you will enjoy the sump trust me, I had an fx5 and now I have a sump...best investment I ever made.

Also it's not as expensive or difficult to have as what it seems like.

Very nice, im no pro on bb groupers, but wont he outgrow the 75 in about a year or so in time? Other than that your tank looks great and seems like you dont rush anything and have a good idea of what your doing. Good work and keep us updated for sure.

Yes that grouper will outgrow that tank. How fast is up to him. Look fwd to trading him or bigger tank. Sump is good for the extra filtration.
