So I have this beautiful 5-6 inch Red Devil (pics to follow soon). I want to make him the centerpiece for my 75 gallon tank. He is so so on the aggressive scale, but I expect that will ratchet up as he grows. I was toying with the idea of putting 3 silver dollars and 2 cons in with him. They are fine right now, but what do you think would happen if I tried a breeding pair of cons in a 75 with a Red Devil? Would they simply not breed? Any other stocking thoughts? I do want something else in the tank with him, while keeping him the focus if possible. Anybody experience small tankmates in a 75 with a RD before?

Your lucky you can put any fish in there at all the only thing mine tolerates is his friend apple snail. I think if you put some caves in there that only the cons could fit in they would definately breed, after all they are cons.

I agree w/ Darky, it's hard to find tankmates for a red devil. I have my 6" RD w/ a big 9" flowerhorn and the only reason that works is the FH is huge. As Darky said, put some hiding spots that only the cons can fit in and it should work. You can put another RD in there maybe. They might breed themselves... or beat each other up. I've had both happen before, lol. G/L...

I would not bother with the silver dollars the rd will waste them but i think the convict idea will work. Just make a pile in the corner with pvc pipe and pots all diferent sizes so the con fry can hide and spawn and the rd can eat 1 once in a while.

Any other fish that might work instead of cons??

maybe a fire mouth, but most likely not. cons are you best bet. you can get white, black, or pink which ever your fancy.
