I am setting up a new 75 gallon tank and bought the generic pine stand at the local fish store.

Today i was helping my uncle set up a 55 and we bought the same all glass aquarium run-of-the-mill pine stand. His however has 2 slots of wood on the ends of the aquarium, and it holds the aquarium in place and acts as an added support.

When i got home i checked out my 75 gallon stand. It doesn't have the same supports. Should i be concerned or is this normal?

No, its fine.. All my stands are somewhat differemt.. They wouldnt be made or sold if it was unsafe. ;)

Thats great.

Another quick question: My uncle has had his 55 set up on the second floor of his house for years with no problem. I am in a 3rd floor apartment and am setting up the 75. Should the weight be something to be concerned about?

Most likely no, but answer a few things..

How old do you think the apartment is?
Where are you putting it on the 3rd floor?
And do you like the people below you? jk..

If it was built in last 15-20 years it should be fine.. Also, placing he tank over solid foundation is best, so ask, or figure out where it is.. Normally against a inner wall.. Kind of hard for me to explain, but just make sure there is good support below, it will weigh alot.

The apartments were all renovated last year. As for whether or not they did any structural improvements i'm not sure. I am putting it against a wall on an inner wall... i think. Its not a wall to the outside but a wall to a neighbor.

When apartments are renovated, I dont think they do internal work, but im not 100% sure.. Putting against the wall with another neighbor on the other side is probably the best you could do.. I would think it would be okay, but I would hate to hear something happen, though thats probably as rare as being stuck by lighting.

If you could find out which way the floor supports are running, you'll want the tank placed lengthwise perpendicular to those, not parallel.

i had a 56 gallon reef in the third floor of an apartment and I KNOW that beast was heavy. Should be just fine!
