I have a 75 gallon rectangular aquarium and I was wondering if this would be an adequate starter home for a motoro pup, and if so, for how long?

A 75 gallon tank would be fine for a pup. Depending on how often you feed, it could reach 12" in disc diameter in 12-18 months after which the tank will start to become a little more restrictive.

I think a 75 would be ok for a motoro pup for like a year or so. As long as there is not a lot of stuff on the bottom of the tank and they have lots of room to move around.
I dont think that there is a ray that can live in a 75 for life. Unless its some weird 75 that has dimensions to have it wider and longer and not so tall. But even then it might be too restricting.

I think a 120g is a bare minimum for keeping rays long term. Granted this applies to the smaller species-hystric, scobina, reticulata, etc.

I agree....the 75 should be good for a pup for a little while... Growth rates vary with each individual ray. I have a brother/sister pair of rays (in seperate tanks)....they are 13 months old.....the female is over 12" while the male is about 8". Be prepared to get a bigger system in a year or so.

sorry over in sg, we measeure tank by feets..

how many feet is a 75 gallon tank?

i think you will need a minimum of 2 feet tank just to raise the young ray,
after that you will need at least a 4 feet tank just to house 1 bigger ray..

the best would be a 6 feet tank or bigger..

I think a 75gallon is a good choice becuase, It a cheap setup for the value of how long a fish can which can only is fit for a year 1/2 (I can get a 75gallon tank for $98.00dollars and a 110gallon filter for $50bucks total $150dollars plus tax.) after a year and a half you should have plenty of time to upgrade by then to a standered size 120g 2W x 3L never matters what hieght you chose just keep a lid on the tank.

A bigger obstacle than the tank size is Texas law. FW rays are on the no-no list.
