I posted this in the general discussion and someone recommended that I place it here for better answers. First, I have a 75 gallon tank with a 3 in Jag that is at least a year and a half old since that's how long I've had him. Yes, you read that right. 3" in 18 months! I also have a Red Devil/Midas in a 55 gallon tank alone. I got both fish the same day. The RD is about 9 or 10". Awesome fish with a huge nuchal hump. What I'm wondering, is what's the best way to have more than one CA cichlid in a tank? I've tried adding a single specimen with the jag and the jag just goes after whatever I put in. Should I just leave the jag alone? Or could I potentially add a few more fish all at the same time for better luck? What fish could I potentially add to this tank?

you proubly won't be able to have other cichlids but i'd try a catfish like a rapheal or something that isn't very active or is really active but it may not work you may have to keep it as a single the tanks not big enough to breed in

but that fish sounds something it should be alot bigger by know

Yeah. I'm not sure why he hasn't grown. The water is the exact same as the Midas tank. Same temp. same filtration. Same gravel. Everything. Plastic plants. Midas... 10". Jag...3"? I read an article in a magazine a few months ago about dwarf Green Terrors that don't get any bigger than 3 or 4 inches instead of the usual 10 or 12. I was thinking maybe this guy is a dwarf or the runt of his litter. I don't know.

After 18 months, if the jag is only 3 inches, he's a runt. A 75g is too small for either one of those species (RD or jag), unless you keep them solo. If you want variety, you could do something with some smaller, not-as-agressive cichlids in a 75g. Try one of a rainbow (multispinosa), convict, firemouth, nicarguense, dempsey, chocolate, and blue acara. But don't get pairs. If you get them all very young, about the same size and introduce them at the same time, you'll be fine in a 75g. Keep the temp around 75F to keep their metabolism low and aggression down. Excellent filtration cannot be overstated. Feed them good - they'll eat and eat and eat, even at the cooler temps. Lots of rocks, slate and driftwood for territorial boundaries. Darker substrate for calming effect. Change 50% of the water once a week, at least, and twice if you can swing it. They'll be a happy community. Yes, I said community. They'll do a little chasing of each other, but that's natural. It'll work if you follow the above. Learn from my mistakes and experience!

what kind of water changes are you doing
