I have a 125 and a 75 gal I was growing out a pair of jack dempsys to go with my two oscars in the 125
but I decided to keep them in the 75 they will be with 3 pictus I was wondering if this is over or under stocked
if its under stocked what should I add? also how do you tell the gender of a jack? and has anyone had success keep them with plants?

I think the pair of jacks will fill up the 75 gallon, if the pair spawns they will become aggressive towards the pictus catfish. I think bristlenose plecos would be better than pictus catfish since they could hide.
How to tell the gender, https://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/threads/sexing-the-dempsey.159108/
I have success with jacks and plants, but a pair might tear/uproot them, plants like anubias and java fern should be ok.

I would just keep the pair of Jack Dempsey in the 75 gallon. Maybe a small group of Tetra that came from the same region. If the pair of Jack Dempsey spawn it will be a problem for the Pictus Catfish. Plants in a pot or tied to wood or a stone may work.

I had a jack with giant danios but they were getting eaten, it might work but I can see the numbers slowly going down.
