Hello all,

I've become a little bored with my 75 gallon planted tank. I've been in the hobby for 20+ years and always gravitated towards aesthetics (aquascaping), small fish, etc. But I'm a bit bit bored with that. I'd like to keep some larger fish with personality. Something with more of a 'pet' quality. I can easily adjust the design of my tank. It would be a sand bottom with logs/driftwood. I do have some Anubias and Java Fern on wood that could stay or go, I'm good either.

To keep water parameters similar to what I have now it would be best with South American or may Central American fish. I recently saw some great looking Electric Blue Texas Cichlids but don't know if their suitable for my size of tank or any other tankmates. Some sites say yes, others no. To make things a little more difficult it is an open top tank. The way it is designed, there isn't any way to put a top on it. So, what would you put in it?

How about 6 neon tetras and 3 discus? Light and colorful stock and will do great in a planted tank. And you do t have to worry about fish killing eachother?

Edit: you said something bigger so why not a EBJD or maybe a group of jaguar cats

You could keep a single CA that gets around 12 inches, a pair that gets no more than 8-10 inches. Or get a group of fish from Amatitlania or Thorichthys, etc...With any CA or SA your not gonna have any shortage of personality so you really have a lot of options. You could definitely get away with a single male “Electric blue Texas” (Herichthys carpintis) in a 75 gallon.

I have 8 T. Meeki, 5 green swordtails (1m4f) and 2 bristlenose plecos. Lots of activity!!!
