I'm rather new to keeping aquariums.I had a few growing up but as soon as I turned 16 keeping fish was the last thing on my mind but now that im older im resurrecting my old hobby.I have a 20 gallon long that im currently setting up to get my feet wet but I also have a 75 gallon that I want to set up later this year however after doing alot of research I'm thinking of going bigger to the range of 125-250 gallons. Is the cost difference between a 75 gallon and say a 175 gallon going to be that much more expensive or is it going to be relatively close?Obviously filtration and lighting,etc.etc. is going to be more but is the overall maitenance and upkeep going to be that much harder?

depending on filtration your water change amount will be more. The cost wont be a huge amount but will go up a lil more

the starting costs would be alot more for the 175 but in the long run the water will be much more stable and easier to control and you will be able to fit alot more fish in it

+1
Plus, if you're already thinking about, you might as well do it now, instead of later, because you WILL do it later! :D

Put it this way, running a 55g and 10g planted tanks with lights on for 9 hours, 2 canister filters, 2 heaters and 2 powerheads costs me 31 cents per day.

My wife's 75g has only 1 filter and the lights are only on for about 6 hours and it costs about 15 cents per day.

This is strictly electricity though. Water doesn't cost as much as you would think.

I have to agree with everyone else. If you are already thinking about going bigger you might as well do it from the start. it;s going to happen anyway. if start up costs are a problem as they were for me set up the 75 and buy small fish to grow out while you save your pennies for the big tank.

Thanks I guess I will go bigger then after i save up some start up money.

Good plan bud, you'll really enjoy your choice to go that little bit bigger. I have a 135 + 40g sump just set up, although it took me a while I'm glad now I took it over the 8*g. You've got some time to grow out some fish + plants in the meantime so you can set it right up when you get it :-)

You could always do both. 75 is a nice tank for a medium sized breeding pair of cichlids or something. That's why I've got a 90 and a 125.
