hi. in my 75 gallon ive been raising 2 jack dempseys which are now about 4-5 inches they have been in the 75 for approximately 2 months. and today i got a coupon from the pet store so i went and bought two blue acara both around 4-5 the pair for $6. so i came home and remodeled the tank with many rocks and a few large peices of driftwood. so far they all seem to be getting along i mean they all stay in a group together.i also have 6 tiger barbs and about 5 small cories. does it seem like to many fish or should i be good for a while til i can get another large tank.

For now you'll probably be alright, but once they get some more size on them they might fight and if either of the two breed then you'll have some trouble on your hands. Its good that you know you have to upgrade, another option would be to find a cheap 55 in the paper for the two Acaras.

alright good. i believe the two dempseys are both female. not sure bout the acara's but i have a large peice of egg crate incase they do fight or an empty 35 gallon.

if they are both females and the acaras are the same sex you'll be fine for line. if they do spwan i dout it will cause alot of trouble.my jd bred in a 120 with jags,gt,tho.ellioti's, cons, fms, sajicas and others and non got hurt atall

ok i tried taking the best pictures i could maybe those who know could sex them if possible? first of the tank you can see the sizes of the fish are about the same. many many caves amongst the rocks and wood.

wow that 2nd JD is colorful! looks like a male just cause of that, its gorgeous.

All gorgeous fish though, not sure about the sex of the acaras, thats the first time I have seen some.

i think you have 2 female JD's cuz of the spots on gill plates, not sure about acaras i doubt the barbs will live if you get the cichlids full sized they will most likely be hungry for tiger barbs. nice fish good bye and as said before as long as you dont get a pair you should be good, BUT a bigger tank would be better.

both JD's are male, they have spots on there gill plate but females have a blue"beard" on there gills. i would also say the largest acara is male, couldnt tell on the smaller one as i carnt see the fins or body structure.

ok sorry for the mistake i might have done better if it was jags lol!
