What should I use to filter my 75 gallon fish tank? I was thinking about a DYI filter but I would have to be shown how to do it. Would it be cheaper to buy a filter or do the DYI? Also my dad is a plumber so would that make it easy to make one?

Thanks
Mike

P.S.- I would just search but my computer is acting up and it could shut down at any time so I would have to keep starting over...

The middle two are the same one, I'm wondering if you had another one you wanted me to see to help me out. Also I read the first one and looking at some of the pictures I'm a little confused, one part goes into the tank (which one?) and the other part is connected to what? Also do you have any nice drawn up pictures of one, almost like blue prints?

Thanks

Okay so I was looking at the first one. One part goes into the tank (which one) but the other connects to what and does what? Also does anybody have a drawn (like using paint or something) almost like a blue print?

No, I just screw'd up, sorry.

The end with the 'ell' goes into the tank(this is all that goes into the tank) and is adjusted to water lever. The open pipe is a vent, and below it is a 't'-that's the water exit. Put on an 'ell' and dump directly into your w/d filter.

There are alot of w/d filters out there all basically mechanically the same. If this one is too tall check out some of the others. Here's one with a refugium...http://www.podzilla.us/drewsfugue.html Just another thought.

okay and on the end of the the part in the tank you add like a pump or something, right? Then what how does the water get back into the tank do you have another one running from your w/d filter back to the tank?

The end in the tank is adjusted so at the correct water level the bottom edge is at the same level as the water and no water enters the pipe. In the filter/sump is located your pump. the filter/sump has enough water in it to keep the system running. When you turn on the pump, water is returned to the tank and creates an over-filled condition (hence the name 'overflow') and water flows into the pipe in the tank to the filter/sump again.

You should have some type of course filter or stainer on the pipe in the tank so nothing gets in there and cloggs it up.
