I just bought a "75" gallon fish tank off some guy on craigslist and I measured it this morning to make sure I didnt get ripped off or anything and It turns out it is (48 x 18 1/2 x 25 1/2) I might be wrong and may just be making things up to be happy but isnt this a 90 gallon???? Thanks alot guys.

Okay cool. That was a better deal then I thought haha. Thanks alot guys I appreciate it.

I'm glad you got a great deal. A 90 gallon has a little more water than a 75, but not really much more room unless you have fish that primarily swim straight up and down (a helicopter fish, maybe?) So, stocking is really about the same.

I think it’s funny how often people say the difference between a 75 & 90 are insignificant…

Décor can be stacked to create a far more complex structure and still leave ample free swim space above it…

A wider diversity of fish can be kept together as top dwelling fish are further from bottom dwelling fish decreasing the likelihood of aggression between them…

The solution to pollution is dilution… 90 gallons of water is 20% more than 75 gallons… it makes a difference!

If someone posted that they put a 20 gal sump on a 75 gal tank someone would point out that this increases the overall volume… but when someone buys a tank that is 15 gal bigger and puts on a few filters that total 5 gal of water… no one wants to give credit to that increased volume…

I have both and see a lot of benefits to the 90 gal… but I also see the price tag which is the real reason most people get 75s.

Congratts on the find!!!

Sounds like a great buy! Is it for the P's?

agreed. I see the comment all the time on forums that since the tanks have the same footprint, that you can really only keep the same amount of fish in both.

now, if your fish are stingrays, then I can see why.

but if your fish are most types of fish, they can and do use all three dimensions to swim as they move around. and thats not even taking into account the dilution power of the extra water volume.

for example, I have a 65 and a 90 with the same footprint, and the difference in room for fish is quite substantial (the 90 is 6 inches taller than my 65 which are both 48x18 footprints).

I have never really agreed with the often heard comment that is all about footprint and thats all that matters.

it is not always the case. :)
