I'm interested in placing a 750 gallon pond style tank in my basement. The foot print will be 10'x4' and there won't be any stand involved. Will this be ok to place on the floor of my basement?

My basement has a sump system installation around the perimeter. Will his cause any issues?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The pond being a coldwater or a heated pond could cause trouble. Such as if the pound is cold water the water won't evaporate that fast from it. But if the pound is kept in the upper 70's to low 80's it will evaporate a lot of water into the basement of the house and could cause humidify trouble.

Humidity and water evaporation are one of the big reasons I don't have a large aquarium / pond in my basement. My 90 gallon lost about 2 gallons a day, having a large pond dumping 10 gallons a day of water into the house seems like a bad idea.

If your concern is related to weight however, what is the floor made of? If its well built concrete it can hold a lot of weight.

I wouldn't worry about evaporation as long as you keep it covered. I lose about 3 gallons a day from my 300 gallon with the covers off. I lose most of it from my sump. I would place a piece of insulation board between the pond and the basement floor to increase heater efficiency.

So please tell me you're going saltwater because everyone knows Saltwater > Freshwater ;)

Considering sending Mo Devlin a pm. I know he once had a pond. I know they can ruin a basement if not done right with all the humidity.

I have a 1700 gallon in my basement. Key is creating a shroud on it and venting it outside. The negative pressure keeps any of the humidity from entering the basement.

Overrated ! ;) Unless your going sharks. Sharks are always awesome.

Funny story... I work with a lot of Asian guys. One of them once asked their land lord if he could "carpet basement". Landlord said yes, as long as he paid for it. The land lord soon realized that there was a sight language barrier.. When he came to the house later and went to the basement, he quickly realized "carpet basement" actually meant "carp in basement". Apparently he had converted the basement to a large pond!!
