Hey Guys,

Set my tank up a few weeks back, 750G, it took a fair bit of sand, approximately 200Kg and was too much trouble to wash it so i just put it in and filled up.

The tank went cloudy and started to settle after a few days with the RO unit on full blast (it changed the tank once every 23 hours)

It's been on full now for about 3 weeks and the tank is still cloudy, it did calm down and when i added fish flared back up again and then started to settle, i added a niger cat to keep the bottom clean and he ploughed through all the sand and i couldnt see no more than 3" the next morning.

This was about 10 days ago now and the tank is still dirty - i thought possible my mechanical might not be good enough so i added an FX5 full of mechanical and it's made no odds.

Again, the RO unit is on full blast changing the tank in just under a day.

This is how it looks now, how can i get it crystal clean?

Lots of water changes. Basically, since you didn't rinse the sand first, you're rinsing it now.

I did wonder - water changes are hard because of its location hence i run the drip.

Guess i could be purchasing a large hose aye?

Both comments basically have it bang on. But when I had a similar problem in a 50g I just filled up the canister with really fine filter floss and it was clear within a couple days.

Hi bones. That's a super size looking tank!!!! Nice one.

You should however always wash sand.... always.
Its gonna take weeks for your water to get clear ...
And it will keep getting dirty every time your fish stir up the sand...
Too late to take out and clean sand.....

I would add a couple of powerful internal filter s in and let them do the work..

It's terribly lazy of me i know - i had 20 bags of the stuff and by the time i got the second i thought ohh bugger it and in the sand went - paying the price now!!

Some strong circulation along the bottom could be a good shout - it really is taking a long time and yes every time its disturbed i have the problem again, at least the catfish is doing a good job - just babysitting another niger from today actually so hopefully the two of them can churn through the sand tonight

I wouold be seriously concerned about doing a pure RO drip, especially considering the volume of water your putting through the system. The pH is likelly highly unstable. This would be a larger concern than the cloudy water IMO.

Nobody is dumb enough to put pure RO into an aquarium as the main source. I'm sure he's cutting it with tap or mineralizing it in some way.
