Hey all, new to the forums and I had a question about filtration. I have a 75g Mbuna tank with around 20 demasoni, 1 bumblebee, 1 kenyi and 1 hybrid. The demasoni are quite small around 1 inch or so each the others are all 3 inches or more. I am currently running a cascade 1000 canister filter and it works great, water is clear.

I am just wondering if I should get some additional filtration for when the demasoni grow up a bit and produce more waste? I was thinking either an Eheim 2213 or 2215 canister in addition to my Cascade or an AC110. What would you guys suggest or do I even need more filtration? Thanks.

I have not used cascade canisters before but looking at its flow rate at 265 GPH I would definitely add something else. In my 75G mixed male setup (mainly adults) I have 2 Rena XP3's @350 GPH each and it works great. I have had AC110s before and they are a great filter. The only problems I had with the AC110s where noisy and burned up impellers and a motor from it sucking up sand. You probably can get by with just your one filter but you will have to clean it more often and will have to vacuum waste up more often with the lower flow rate. Good Luck!

Temp: around 78-80 degrees
ph: 8.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrate: < 0.25ppm

Usually do 30-40% water changes every 8-10 days or so.

If I do get additional filtration is there any advantage to a HOB filter as opposed to another canister? I like how canisters are quiet and out of the way.
