Just got rid of my peacocks want to try something different. Never kept mbuna before. Don’t want an all male tank. Maybe a colony of demasoni? Suggestions appreciated, here’s the scape let me know if it’ll work.

Demasoni are challenging...try either yellow labs or acei or 50/50 of those two. Double or triple your rock.

Barring a few exceptions, I prefer Mbuna over Haps & Peacocks. Some of the favorites I currently keep are: Zebra Chilumba, Cynotilapia Afra, Red Top Trewavasae, Red & Blue Zebras, & Powder Blue Socolofi.
Just need a complex hardscape & clean, hard water.

I’ll need more rocks in this scape for mbuna right? M/f ratios?

IMO, The Hardscape needs to be substantially elevated & more complex, w/ numerous caves & crevaces.

I have demasoni and yellow labs along with red zebras in a 29gal... its been 4 months since i raised them. The aggression has been a bit challenging but changing the rock scape every couple weeks seems to be the trick

Heres a pic without the rock scape (took the rocks out for cleaning)
