I have some fish that I was going to put in a friends 75G setup which currently has no fish. 2 Firemouths about 3-4" and 2 juvenile salvini's (2-3"). I believe the FM's are male but can't sex the salvini's yet. The tank is 4' long with lots of cobblestones. Is the tank large enough to house 2 FM's and 2 Salvinis long term. Will the Salvini's pick on the FM's. Currently the FM's are larger than the salvini's and was hoping that may keep the aggression down. Does it sound like a good CA biotope aquarium?

if the salvini pair up you can have problems since the FM aren't even close to their level of aggression

The tank is big enough. I think it is a good combo.

The salvini's are basically rock dwellers give them each a rock or driftwood structure to call their own as they will spend much of their time there. Make sure it's at least 2 or the aggression over a home will be very high. My salvini is a formatable fish, large dentistry for such a small fish, he hates overly aggressive fish and has killed a few red terrors in his days. I don't think they'll see the firemouths as a threat but i've never tried the combo. The current tankmates are larger than him......1 green texas and a dovii.

Sounds like a nice set up. The only problem would be if the sals pair up. Sand or a fine gravel substrait would be best for CA cichlids. My firemouth and sal love to dig. Live plants also work well with those fish. I would add some swordtails or tetras for dithers too.

I've had a 3" Salvini with my 4" JD and 6" Albino Oscar they lived great together but my oscar got overly aggressive and killed the Salvini..my Sal had Awesome color...it made me very sad ...as i Loved my Salivini...
