I had a 75g tank given to me by a friend before he moved out of state and it has a male betta and a 12 in. pleco in it. Now i know that you can't put a male betta in a tank with another male betta, but is there any other fish i could put in there. From what I've heard you can put another fish in with a betta as long as it doesn't have alot of fins like a male betta. So, does any one have any ideas?

I have heard with betta they get the abuse the most, i would probaly put in like a dempsey or something, betta is a nice fish, but once u find out about all the other crazy ciclids etc. u cant beat it, a betta can survive in a puddle of watter so

Well as for the convicts, I had a friend that had a few of them and they breed like rabbits. A dempsey sounds good though. She had one of those, but they were really little. No bigger then two inches. So, i don't really know what they look like when they get bigger. Pics pls. I've had some cihlids before but i had to get rid of them because i wasn't ready for such a big responsibility. But now i am. I also have a 55g corner tank with a bowed front. It has tons of guppys in it now but soon they'll be food for some monster fish as soon as i can get them.

I was thinking about a little baby rainbow cichlid but i had one of those before and he was really aggresive. Was it just that fish or are all of them like that?

I had a beta in a community tank.. planted with lots of other cover. cant remember what all I had in ther for sure, but there was a couple angels, and a bala shark for sure.

GooDyboy420, Welcome to MFK! You are thinking of a Jack Dempsey. If it sounds like a dudes name, well, its because it is....Jack Dempsey was a famous heavy weight boxer. And like the boxer, the fish will kick any beta's butt :naughty: I just don't think tickets for that event will sell though.

Cichlids in general can be pretty agressive too. In a cichlid community tank there is usually one individual that develops alpha behavior and terrorizes the others in the tank. A beta just cant swim fast enough. Cichlids are really nice fish though.

All the betta's that I every had got eaten when I tryed to put them in with other semi-aggressive fish( like barbs and such) I can not see a betta lasting long in a tank with anything more then maybe dwarf cichlids of some type. I would go with bottom dwellers like loaches or botias if you want to keep the betta.

 Listen up , My grandmother had an abusive BETTA in a communtiy 5 gallon in her kitchen , it would not stop harassing her snails, so guess what, now i have a BETTA in my 90 gallon in my room... he's in with a few knifefish-glass knife(rare maybe)-clown knife- Electric blue Jack dempsey(50$ a pop but worth it, and they have a subdued aggressive attitude) mines really curious, doesnt bute anyone... and i have a Stingray, and a Opaline/blue gourami... the only tank mate my BETTA harass's now is the gourami.. but he's no match.. my curious lil EBJD.. seperates any1 who scuffles.. weird but he does a good job being a bouncer..I'd go with a Few Electric Blue JD's, and perhaps some cool schooling fish.. HAtchets maybe?
