I am currently running a 75G tank. I am trying to decide whether it is worth upgrading to a 90G. Stock will be: 2 angels, 1 festivum, 4 pindare, 1 heckelii, a school of tetra, a school of cories, and 2 bn.

I can sell the 75G tank for around $100-125, but it will cost me about $280 to buy the 90G (just the tank).

Thoughts?

All you are gaining is a little height. I wouldn't do it. Nothing in your stock suggest that you need the extra 4" of water column.

Is it worth $50 per inch to make the tank a few incehs taller?

I've owned both 75 & 90 gal tanks... I don't think the extra few inches are worth much...

go bigger . . . sit back and wait until you can make an investment that will pay off in a big way. keep your 75 gal and just save until you can move up to something longer. 15 gal is not much of a step up. once you get your big tank, you will continue to need that 75 gal for quarantine, additional fish, etc . . . keep it and wait.

I looked at aqueon's site, and personally the next size up you should be looking at is the 125g, which is their smallest 6ft tank. If you only have space for a 4ft tank, then their 120g will give you the height of a 90, but 6" more in width(24"). That might be an option if you wanted to keep a single fish that grew to 18". With your stock, a 6ft tank is the next logical step up.

Thanks for the responses.

I've actually got a 5ft 120 on order for my oscar. :) It should be here in a week or so. Once I move the oscar and its tankmates to the 120, it will free up the 75G tank for the angelfish/geo community that I described.

Since that means changing out the substrate and planting, I was considering moving to a 90G before doing so. However, after thinking about it, I was starting to question whether I was really going to gain enough to make it worth it.

In my current home, I can accomodate a 4ft tank and a 5ft tank. However, within the next year I may be moving to a new location which can probably accomodate two 5ft tanks or probably possibly even one 6ft tank in addition to the 5 ft tank. If my stock isn't forcing an upgrade to the 90G, it's probably a lot smarter to wait to upgrade the 75G until I move to where the biggest possible tank is even bigger. If it turns out that I don't move, then that Aqueon 120G may be the best upgrade option.

I say bigger is better, the fish may not use every inch you provide but it provides stabler water quality, longer amount of time for power outages to cause damage etc. I would prefer a 90 to a 75 but then again i'm not the one paying

If you could possibly find a 90g used I would go for it. New probably not a good idea, though I did spend over a $100 an inch for the extra 6" of height on my aquarium:eek:

Not really worth it IMO. I got a 90. Its a nice viewing tank but I don't think its a big step up. I would rather have a wider or longer tank personally. I am grateful for the added volume but my bichirs don't travel it often lol.

Brian are you referring to your 450 gallon ? I think that's what the size was.. If so 100 an inch makes sense they probably had to upgrade the glass right ?
