This is my 75 gallon Gymnogeophagus tank. I originally built it as a saltwater tank for my classroom, but after sitting in the garage for a year I decided to modify it and set it up fresh.
The back left corner is sectioned off with a piece of tinted glass (it was a top off an old end-table) to form the "sump". A slotted piece of sheet ABS serves as the overflow weir. I glued on an ABS pipe/tee/cap assembly to funnel the water into the filter sock.
The filter sock is held by a holder I made from sheet ABS. The 1.5" street ell pops off to allow easy access for changing the sock.
The auto water changes is accomplished by a small Quiet One pump (cylindrical pump attached to green tubing) on a timer that ejects about five gallons/day. A float valve refills the water - well water, so no treatment necessary.
An Eheim 2217 acts as the return and primary bio-filtration. A Hydro V sponge filter acts as additional/backup bio-filtration.
The aquascaping is very simple (this is a garage tank) with about 40 pounds of CaribSea Sunset Gold sand and a few pieces of locally found driftwood.
It isn't anything fancy, but I think it is a rather unique and very functional tank.
