Can a 7 inch Florida/Spotted Gar (not sure which one) live with a 4.75 Senegal Bichir. They are currently living together now temporarily for another 2 months, I am kind of afraid to turn the lights off... they seem to be fine right now.

Thanks

Dan.

Yea, They should be fine. I have my 18" florida with me 9 inch Delhezi.

Funny, I had the same thing going on in my tank 9" Del and a 18" Gar. I had to get rid of the Del because my 14" Ornate tried to eat him 2-3 times a day.
And I was worried the Gar was going to turn him into a meal, go figure.

I guess some tanks it works and some it doesn't ha ha

Ok, just and update on this.

I put the Senegal Bichir with the Gar, two days later the Bichir has an injured eye with the lense/cap of the eye basically coming off the head.

I put it down to 3 possibilities:

1) Bumped his head and ripped the lense.cap off.
2) Has a bad case of Cloudy Eye.
3) The gar hurt him

so in response to these possibilities:

1) He has never done anything like that in the other tank, I had him in a Tanganikan tank and was constantly chased by other fish but was still quite the happy chappy in there.

2) I checked the water parameters and Amonia, Nitrite and Nitrate = 0 and I do 25% water change twice a week.

3) My dad was watching the fish one day and saw that the Gar took a snap at the Bichir....

so in conclusion. I think it could well have been the gar who has damaged the poor little bichirs eye. It healing up ok now, he is probably blind in that eye but the cap is about to fall off which is revealing a slightly damaged eye.

I have now relocated the gar to my 150G which has a divider in it. The gar likes to poke his head through the gaps in the divider and the other day i was wiping the front of the tank and he freaked out and must have caught a gill on the edge of the divider. It slightly bent his gill but I am just hoping/guessing he will be ok and it will just bend back to shape. Its not that noticable but it is there.

Anyways. Just thought I would let u guys know that these two guys may not mix.
