12/14: now a 5pointer (5"+)

Diet: visibly eats Massivore delite, red wigglers, not sure if it eats the NLS thera A, and NLS Super Red pellets I drop in.

Temp: 78-80F. 170G, shared with many clown loaches, cichlids, etc.

So, is there anything I can do about the lack of red color on the pectoral fins? Or it is what it is?

Thanks!

I would guess it will come back some with age. It was spectacular when small so don't give up on it. I know my royals darken on NLS but have never had any problem with L25. Mine get only NLS Thera A+ and spirolina (pellets and wafers). Also the tank colors (yours looks fine) and stress from other fish can darken some fish. My L25 all developed a much lighter brown background with only black spots starting at about 8". That is when I expect you will again have a 7 pointer.

Very interesting. Looks like he has lost some of the red on the dorsal and caudal fin which is normal. I didn't know color could be lost on the other fins. Hopefully it will come back for you if he does lightn up some. I love the dark look on L25 whether 7point or not

if the red/orange on pectoral fins is faint or light when small it will lose it as they grow. this is not always the case but just my experience. the color has to be dark or pretty apparent for a better chance of retaining. black is a pretty dominant color and once it takes place it will more likely stay just like the caudal fin. there r a few and rare exceptions like xantos, maybe luteus, n a other factors like stress, environment, food....again just my experience.

They will also eat veggies if offered.. Mine eats carrots (wich will enhance red) and sweet potato..
