IN A PLACE
I am in a Jack Dempsey craze!

My LFS has two 6-7" blue Jacks--really beautiful , thick, and colorful. I can get both of them for $100 (talked em down from $130). See pic attached. Is that a good price?

They also have eight 1.5-2" EBJDs that I could probably get for about $100 as well. Didn't get a pic but they are pretty standard...

To complicate matters, a craigslister has a 4-5" ebjd that has been beat up by a flowerhorn and needs a home--$15.

I have a 100g QT tank up and ready to go.

What should I do?
I want the rescue fish and it will go with either the bog or little jacks. I doubt the big and little jacks would work in that tank.

The big jacks would eventually go in my 375 with a silver aro and 2 motoro rays. I don't know how long it would take to get the little jacks up to a size where the aro wouldn't eat them...Aro is about 14".

PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE!

you will deffinetly get mixed reviews asking if that is a fair price. Depending on were you live and some one else lives prizes and value varie. I cant c that pic very well. But if they are a pair. Or atleast opposite sex as each other and can make a pair. To me they are worth that much or even more. Just look at it as how do we get a pair. We have to buy like 8 of them to be safe raise them and let a pair form. So for one 130 if less then buying a batch of ebjd's and take care of them and raising them to that size. This is oviously my opinion and the perspective i see what a pair of fish is worth to me. Either way a great pick up. I would purchase.

The pair looks nice, I'd go with them. My thing is, I see JD's for 20-25 bucks each. 100 for a pair to me is steep. But I guess depending on area they could be more.

I would also go with the pair for sure. But it's up to you and what you want. Depends on how bad you want the bigger ones.

Allso i diddnt add this in what i wrote earlier. As a example in prize in paid 30 bucks for the pair of jd's i just got but they are 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 inch so they are smaller and regular jd's not ebjd. And on average the price of ebjd's is about three times or more then the price of reular colored jd's and the ones i bought were priced for double that i just happened to get them cheaper. Good luck on your decision. But i would deffinetly buy the pair

i'm not sure if they are a breeding pair or even of opposite sex, I just like they way they look--super blue! Going to get them tonight I think

How do you know the pair are Blue Gene JD's? How does the LFS know that? Don't assume just because these guys show a lot of Blue that they are in fact BGJD's. In fact, I would never trust buying BGJD's from anyone I didn't know very well. With no proof, you are likely wasting your $$$$$

I agree with macfish, also what are your plans with the fish, are you looking for just a display tank, looking to breed, or just want some dempseys?

If your looking to breed or just want a nice display tank I would go for the 8 EBJD's and grow them out.

You may already know but you cant cross EBJDxEBJD, but if you start with 8 EBJD's you can always pick some good stock and then add reg dempseys of BGJD's to form mating pairs.

It would be hard to start out with supposed Blue Gene's and then add EBJD's.

Again depends on what you want.
