im thinking of up grading to a 8x2x2, 230gal/890lt tank in the next few months and just thinking about what to stock it with.
Most of my current stock will stay in my 6 foot but my oscar and silver dollars will be going in the 8 foot.
Would the following work in mentioned 8 foot tank.

Jaguar
JD
Texas
Festae (female)
Pleco

Currently my oscar is the boss of my tank, he is not that aggressive just a bit of a bully. I recently added 2 x 1.5 clown loaches and he pays no attention to them, he is about 3 yrs old.

Would all the cichilds i mention be a bit to aggressive for my O or do u think i could pull it off? My O has lived with other O's but it always ended in fighting so now he is the only O i have.
So what do u guys think? or do u have any other recommendations?

Sounds like a nice tank you have!

I had to separate my Jag from my Oscars and get him a new tank after he reached the 12 inch mark because he kept attacking them (this was in a 6ft tank maybe you will have more luck in an 8ft?) and now he just tries to attack me every time I pass! You could get lucky and get a placid one but in my experience Oscars can't hang with a Jag.

Could always move all the fish from the 6' to the 8' and turn the 6 foot into an African tank or a breeding tank or something.

another thought i had was move all the fish from the 6' to the 8' then get a jag in the 6' and maybe a festae or texas then i could add the jd to the 8' i think that might work

it probably could work, although it really depends on the individual personalities, as a particularly aggressive specimen can change that

I would think a 6 foot tank should be big enough for a breeding pair of jags. At least for a good while. So long as the tank is at least 18" deep.

On your 8 footer, what are the rest the dimensions/gallons? I would agree with some of the current responses by saying the festae may be too much aggression for the rest the stocklist. It still may be worth trying. You could possibly even do a couple more fish than that. I guess if it were me with an 8 foot tank with that stocklist I would probably do something like 2 oscars, 2 jack dempseys, 1 jaguar, 1 texas, maybe even a green terror, your pleco and start there. There's a lot of options. Good luck!
