8 Simple Steps to Stopping HR669!

Hello,

I only own a few fish but I own a very large collection of reptiles so I'll be effected by this just as everyone else will on this site.

I have come up with an easy way for people to send in letters to help stop this Bill. I feel letters will make the largest impact as it's harder to ignore a large stack of letters than it is to ignore and delete emails.

It's mostly reptile specific but can be altered a little to express more for fish.

I'll post my 8 steps here and if someone would like to edit the letter and petition in step 7 so it's more fish specific please do so.

8 Simple Steps to Stopping HR669!

Doing these steps will cost you at the max $5.00. Just think of what it will cost you if you sit around and do not send in your letters.

- Step 1.

"Cut and Paste" everything from this line to the next line into a word document. Erase and input your information in the bold areas where it says to.

Dear Committee Member,

Please oppose HR669. It is a fundamentally flawed Bill written by a radical environmentalist group that seeks to end the ownership and trade of all non-native animals. There is not a shred of scientific evidence to justify the destruction of a Reptile Industry that leads the world in producing and exporting high quality captive bred reptiles. With the stroke of a pen thousands of small American family businesses would be bankrupted overnight. With no quantifiable benefits, what could be the justification to destroy a viable sector of the American economy in a time of hardship?

What will the additional drain on taxpayer dollars be to grow USFWS at unprecedented levels in order to destroy American small business? These are not the "Too big to fail" corporate titans, but small family businesses with their entire net worth wrapped up in their Reptile breeding projects and ancillary supporting businesses. A 3 billion dollar a year industry would be wiped out by HR669. Thousands of American families would suffer losing everything.

- Trade in Reptiles and ancillary businesses are estimated to be a 3 billion dollar a year industry.
- More than 9 million Reptiles are exported from the US annually.
- More than 11 million Reptiles are kept as pets in the US. That means 1 in 25 households have 1 or more Reptiles.
- The US accounts for 82% of the worldwide trade in Reptiles.
- At least 500,000 Americans would be negatively impacted by HR669. Thousands of small family businesses would be destroyed.
- There are approximately 4 million boas & pythons, as well as more than 7 million geckos, lizards turtles & other Reptiles in captivity in the US today.
- The United States Association of Reptile Keepers Opposes HR669.

Please oppose HR669! The costs to American Families would be enormous. The benefits are both questionable and non quantifiable. NO ON HR669.

They're not really thinking this out.

It's the same with most reptiles. Reptiles are cold blooded so there are very few places in the US that they can survive if released into the wild. Reptiles do not do well in cold weather.

ummm these guys are idiots... its already ILLEGAL to own almost all native species so i think they just want to ban ownership of pets period... if violence werent in my blood i would find it in my heart to say an alternative to SHOOT THOSE PETA ****ERS!!!!!!!!!!

the way to stop this bill is simple... gun down all residence in and around the proximity of that return address and persuade against the proposal to whoever is planned to make the appeal at gunpoint.. then assassinate the heads of peta just for a statement. go around in a Russian tank hooked up with megaphones repeating the message "ALL KNOWN MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS OF PETA WILL BE SHOT! TAX WRITE OFFS TO THOSE WHO IDENTIFY MEMBERS OF PETA! AFFILIATION WITH THE MEMBERS OF PETA WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE ARREST! FAILURE TO TURN IN AFFILIATES AND KNOWN MEMBERS WILL RESULT IN EXECUTION AND IMMEDIATE FAMILY ARREST" just keep rolling on by... every block, every neighborhood, every street. tanks for all!!

or perhaps we could just call forth evan allmighty during the flood and when the environmentalist start bugging him about all his non-native "pets" we splash beef blood all over them, push them off the arc and dump our piranhas on them.

I think I will do the steps mentioned above. To make it more personal, I will even hand write them all... Man... That's a lot of work...

It's our hobby though and I say let's protect it from all encompassing bills.
