Hey everyone. I have an 8 to 10" dovii. I was wondering what make good tank mates for them. Right now he is in a 75 gallon with gravel, sand and some big rock's. I know I cant keep him in there forever as the dovii get huge. I have a friend that has built a 5000 gallon plywood aquarium in his basement. that he will go in pretty soon. I was just wondering what could go in with him that he wont kill right off the bat. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.

Nothing if its a male you will soon seen they should be kept alone especially since tours is big already... He has probably claimed the whole tank...

I did forget to mention that there are 2 convict's in there with him. Both are approx 2 to 3" and he has not killed them yet. He was not the first in the tank. Also I find it kind of weird that he wont eat pellets or other fish just flake's. I must have got a wuss for a dovii....lol

he wont be a wuss for much longer i doubt that arrangement will last, but in the 5000g you could probably get away with some other bruiser tank mates and just add them all at the same time (or the dovii last) and make sure they are bigger than him not really sure what to suggest since i dont really have experience with playing around with a tank that large, definitely wont be able to add anything to the 75g though

5000g tank in basement,,, Excellent, as said in that size tank im sure you could get away with so much more options.

Some Jaguars, Cuban, Peacock Bass, Red Devil, Chocolates, or Black Belts in the 5000 Gallon...but in the 75 I would waste my money on buying anything because he's gonna kill whatever you put in there right off the bat!

Like everyone else said about the 75, no tankmates while hes in there unless your wanting them to end up dead or eaten;) now in the 5000 YES, you can have alot of tankmates. it would be a good idea if everything just as big or fully grown. You can add bass, catfish, arrowanna's, Midas's, red devils, etc and i would go for a large community and would prolly work out best if you kept it to a Lake Nicaruaguan Biotope:)

Regarding the Convicts, sometimes preds that don't eat their food eventually come to regard it as "tank decoration". This is why you'll sometimes see goldfish which aren't eaten grow to huge sizes alongside the fish which should've eaten them.

Depending on the temperment of your dovi I would have to say nothing.
