So about 18 years ago when I first started keeping cichlids my first species was a firemouth. Over the years I have kept them on and off but have learned in the last couple of years that you can keep them in groups.
I just got 7 young Firemouth to grow out together around the center fish of the tank an adult Threadfin acara (I know SA).
Other tank mates are a bristle nose pleco, candy stripe pleco and a 3 beacon plus a random red tail shark thing.

So far it's only been a couple of days but the get along well so far. I might change the gravel to something a bit darker and more natural looking since they seem a bit washed out over the light gravel.

Beautiful fish!
I love firemouths, great fish to keep in a group.
Your may find your tank to be quite packed when the FM's are large, and I would keep an eye on the threadfin for aggression. They can be finnicky and the FM's look similar enough to warrant the attention.
Just keep an eye on them as they grow, issues shouldn't arise for a while.
