I'm going to be building a stand for an 800 Gallon L-Shaped Glass Tank,

Dimensions -

Front - 8 feet long by 42 inches in width

Side - 7 feet long by 36 inches in width

Tank weight when full - Somewhere around 9,000 lbs

I was thinking 2 x 10's doubled up at 10-12 inch centers with cross bracing and 6 x 6 posts for the corners,

Any ideas/thoughts?

What are all of the verticals going to be 6x6? If you were near NJ Id give you a good price on a steel stand. You could probably go with doubled 2x6 upper and lower frame. Then do verticals every 20"-24". 3/4" plywood on top. Slap some diagonal bracing in the corners. You should be alright

I agree with jsodwi, if in doubt build it heavy. I would add a couple of center braces to support the 42" front to back direction also.
Good luck on the build!! What are you going to put in the tank?

Its eaiser to over build the stand than it is to clean up the mess if the tank breaks!!
