Hi all, my first post here, but i was reading quite a bit in the last couple of months. I am na n00b in fish keeping and if i ask lame question just be patient. You were here in the past as well ;)

So i am updating my current tank, not in any way "monster". Actually i should post and ask for help in turtle forum, as the setup is for razorback musk turtle. I have some minor fishes as well, but the main "attraction" is turtle. But I find community at MFK very helpful and friendly. And DIY section was and still is a great inspiration for me.

So here is the story. I'm getting 70x70x60cm tank (27.5 x 27.5 x 23.5"), glass 10mm. It will be filled to about 75% to accomodate basking spot for the turtle. I've checked number of DIY threads and I have a general idea how the stand should look like. My problem is that in Germany i can't really find typical for small (and not only) 2x4". What is available is either much smaller or much bigger. An optimal size for size/strength (correct me if i'm wrong here!) is 58x78mm (2.28" x 3.08"). The following project was drawn with those and with 20x90mm (0.79" x 3.54") boards. If necessary I plan to put 1" plywood on top.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Critique?

you could probably get away w less but yea that looks pretty strong. why not just build entire cabinet out of plywood and call it a day?

the stand is only for an 80 gallon tank. most production stands are built of thinner plywood and with no bracing. you have to realize the vertical strength of wood.
