I currently have a red tailed giant gourami that will be due for a tank upgrade.

I have just purchased a 8x2.5x2.5 tank with a 4ft K1 sump. So i can buy more exotics.

For water changes would i be best pre mixing water ager in a drum next to the tank with a air stone?

If so how long can i have it sitting their with a airstone?

How long should it sit until being used?

I just want this set up to be perfect and have the vest interest of the fish.

I was also wondering the reasoning for letting it sit?
If your water company uses free chlorine, then yes letting it age with an air stone would allow for chlorine gas off.
If your water supplier uses chloramine (AKA Total Chlorine) letting it sit doesn't work, because the ammonia added to chlorine to produce chloramine is very stable form and does not easily gas off.
When I worked at a water supplier we tested water treated with chloramine and found, after 2 weeks of sitting, the residual concentration was nearly as the same, as the first day.

I go straight from tap into tank, no addition of any chemicals. Pics of tank?! Sounds like a beast.

fine if you're on well water that is decent, but dangerous if you're using city water. chlorine and chloramine in the water has the same effect on fish gills that chlorine gas has on lungs.

Well water :) I guess I should have said that.

Jesus, I can't imagine living In a place that has such poor water quality that you have to add a bunch of harmful chemicals to it, that just can't be healthy for you. Don't you have any concerns about that?
I do a weekly 80% WC straight from the tap.

What kind of stock are you thinking about apart from the gourami?

better than cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery and hepatitis...
on the plus side, with all the hormones, anti-depressants, and anti-psychotics in the water supply, it's hard to care.
and yes, I do blame him in part.
