Im in the middle of a fish refurb and have decided to remodel somewhat. I have removed or am in the process of removing most of my smaller tanks to make way for some bigger ones so that i can have stingrays and a go at breeding some larger plecs etc.

Iv decided to remove 2 racks from one side and plan to remove and resize the rest on the other walls to allow me to have 4 8'x4'x30" tanks along one wall with 2 stacked above 2 lower tanks.

The tanks themselves im looking at building from ply wood with a frame structure, fibreglass sealed and then glass viewing window.

To hold the tanks above im looking at a welded box section frame which will have sections bolted together and think it will be on 5m long rack with either top and bottom section's or front and back sections being the welded ones bolting to the side welded sections.

Filtration is going to be pond based system for all 4 tanks using a 30 inch lacron bead filter and some sort of box filtration or sump type.

Looking online and at loadsa other builds i see many dont frame thenply and screw it together however i plan to have a 6x2 and 4x2 combo type frame and am looking at using either 18 or 22mm ply and a 12mm glass panel.

Rack im looking at box section and am researching requirements as friends have used 100x50mm.

Any advice welcome

Now thinking of a single 16x4x3 tank on the floor made from hollow block and rebar using another couple of courses of block and a lintil to support the tanks of plywood above.

What's it gonna house? sounds good so far. Post some pics of progress when u put the widow in what will you be using? Make sure not to skimp around the window you can always cut off the excess when it dries. You don't want to have to push on the window or try to lift it cause there wasn't enough goo

I want to keep stingrays eventually but may house and grow on some of my l no plecs first. Kinda battling with myself over the material as i dont know enough about the construction strength of the different options and obviously want walls to be as thin as poss so they dont eat into the overall internal measurements. Iv just had some plasterboard removed from the walls as i re insulate and add new walls so still a bit off starting the big tank. Ideally id like it built to support the tanks above somehow so that i dont require an additional rack build around it

3/4-1" plywood is probably a good option then support with 2x6s as for supporting from above that much water will be a massive weight not sure I'd trust that. It will have to be a beast of a stand

Im looking at having the big tank on the floor and the 2 8 footers above. Id looked at 100mm box section steel as a rack for the tanks above but would prefer if i could use the block work or concrete from the tank below
