Ok heres the previous thread from when i picked him up

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195609

I had him in quarentine tank for 5-7 days before putting him into my main tank

In the pic in the above thread you can see a slight bump on his forhead just above his eyes, on either side of the bump he had small holes/indentations that i initially thought may have been scars from HITH which had healed

he was in my my main tank for two weeks eating well generally healthy etc

then i noticed one day he wasnt eating, the next day i noticed that the bump had become a pale/whitish colour and the scars had become red inside and around the edges, he still wasnt eating but acting normally

the next day was the biggest decline the bump looked like the flesh underneath was rotting out it had become like a sore, he was breathing ok but not very active, i pulled him out straight away and gave him a salt bath, then put him back into a quarentine tank changed the water and added salt

then i had to go away for the wknd, he declined rapidly while i was away and passed yesterday

i dont know what caused it, HITH, parasite, infected injury??

all other tankmate are fully healthy and active, tank size 6x2x2.5

Tankmates: 10" Red Tiger Oscar, 11" RTC, 5" Jag, 6" Texas, 4' Feastea, 4" JD no real aggression issues

Water Conditions: PH 6.8, Amm 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0-10
PH a little low was gradually adding refulator to bring it slowly to 7

here is one of the only shots i got of him in my main tank where you can just see the hole/scar on the forehead

:help2:

Sucks dude. Something similar happened to a gorgeous female festae a while back. She died in quarantine despite all efforts to treat and diagnose. Definitely wasn't HITH, looked like a giant pimple or abcess.

Same thing you are describing.

Ehh... That sucks man. I thank god that to date I have never had an issue like this.

Keep an eye on that Oscar. They're very susceptible to H.I.T.H.

well i think the decline was too quick for HITH, i have seen oscars with far worse scarring from HITH disease and they dont seem bothered at all

abcess/pimple is a good way to describe the wound, just that it was centred between what looked like 2 existing small HITH scars

I just had the same thing with my male festae. It looked like a huge double-headed zit above his eye. I dosed the tank with aquarium salt, but saw no change. I took him out of the tank and with a Q-tip dunked in hydrogen peroxide I gently drained the zit and wiped away the pus. I made sure that there was no more pus inside by using several Q-tips dunked in hydrogen peroxide. You have to be very gentle as the tissue is very raw. Be sure not to open up the top layer of skin. just massage with Q-tip until pus oozes out. Anyway, I put him back in the tank and a couple days later the abscess was healing up. After about 5 days, you can barely tell where it was. He's good as new.

Wow. First thought is infected wound, but there's no guarantees. The red in the craters is what really makes me think that, as infected tissues will turn red. The body may have been trying to push something out that got lodged in the wound, like a piece of wood, rock, whatever...which caused the "pimple". Do you still have him? Can you open up the area to look at it? That will likely be the only hope you have of figuring it out.

no he was disposed of while i was away

and your right without looking at him i dont think it can be diagnosed for sure, dont think it would have been hith tho, too fast

just picked up a replacement btw almost the same size, better coulour and finnage

like nothing ever happened
