I am getting ready to move my 9 red bellies to a larger tank. I found a 125g tank for a preatty good price. Wanted to check to make sure 9 reds will have enough room fully grown? I could also just hold out for a 150g, but im not sure when that could become available. I really dont want to get ride of any of my red's. Is 125 going to be enough room for 9 reds to become fully grown?

I think with proper filtration you could keep them in there for a very long time.

I would overfilter with atleast double the recommended amount for a tank that size.

125 gal for 9 reds sounds it's gonna be a little crowded however you might get away with it, keeping 7 would be a better number for that size of setup.

Good luck.

a 125 would be tight for space but may work if you over filter. they would really only be crowded in there after they hit the 10"+ mark

i agree 7 would be a better number, or if you can hold out till a 150 becomes available that would be great for all 9 of them :)

i'm putting 13 caribe/terns in a 240gal come christmas, they are in my 125 now, they are only 3.5'' though, you would be good until maybe a year and a half maybe:)

what's the foot print of the you have in mind? if the 150g has the same foot print as 125g and it's just taller then it won't help much.
try to get a 180g if you can.

Im still kinda new to the hobby. What do you mean by "footprint"?

The term footprints that he's refering to is asking the measurements of the tank. Essentially if the 125 and 150 have the same width and length, there's not much of an advantage of getting the larger one since piranhas don't necessarly need the heigth.
