Due to lack of time from work projects and a growing 9 month old 100 plus Cane Corso pup I've decided to downgrade my fishroom. I'm going to keep my 135 gallon and my 90 gallon and would like your thoughts on what type of fish I could keep for life or until I work dies down or get that fish itch back. I was thinking about going community route in my 135 but would like to do a cichlid community. For the 90 I would like to go with an exotic pair maybe the show fish rout.

Thanks

bump for suggestions

An eartheater or hap community would look great in the 135, lots of action and color plus low aggression.

Anything that gets to around 12-14" would work as a pair for the 90, just have to watch out for aggression with the more aggressive species. (Rtms, rds, jds, jags, grammodes, etc)

For the 135 community, you could go with African cichlids if lots of color and tons of fish is your goal. Or you can go with a new world community with the less aggressive new world cichlids in a group of about 7-11 individuals without a breeding pair.

Thanks for the tips folks

I'd do a Lyonsi pair in the 90. I always wanted a a pair of these guys... *(someone please correct me if a pair would not fit in a 90)

As far as the 135 I'd probably do what I always end up doing in any tank I setup: SA/CA community. Severums would be cool, turquoise and rotkeil are what I keep so they are the first that come to mind but a good looking male gold is hard to beat. Give them some tank mates like a few smaller geos or some type of acara and maybe a pleco or 2 (the smaller ones of course). These types of cichlids will probably let you get away with some smaller dithers like some rummy nose tetras.

Another good setup for a 135 is as follows: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?514336-135-gallon-Mbuna-1-year-update

Lol... JC is probably going to think I'm stalking him since this is the second time I've referenced his African tank tonight.

Another really cool option, not too far from my SA/CA suggestion would be to do a discus tank. 6+ discus and a large group of tetras always looks awesome; but you are downsizing, you may not want to go down the discus route.

lol. No but I do like the suggestion. My 135 Mbuna is the most active tank I have. Not very peaceful but Mbuna are pretty tough. Very cool community of around 40-45 fish now. Gotta thin the herd.

I just recently setup my 90 with a community of Angelfish, Roseline sharks, Cories and 2 rubber nose. Super active and peaceful.

I would go with an all male hap/peacock tank and some synodontis cats in there. Talk about some cool colors. That would be cool for the 135.
