I might have to put one 90 on the intake of my Reeflo cuda...is that going to cause any trouble? I dont think it would but I know you shouldnt restrict the intake of the pump. Its 1.5" on the pump...should I make the elbow and plumbing up to the intake 2" and reduce at the pump or will all 1.5 be good. I am talking about on the outside of the sump too...there will be at least one more 90 in the sump to draw water from the bottom close to the glass so it doesnt suck air.

The pump does 4300 @ 0'....its going to be running my reef ready 240 long (two 1.5" drains and two 1" returns) with a all male hap/peacock mix. I am shooing for 2000gph via some 3/4" lock line nozzles, at least 4. I will have a gate valve after the pump to turn it down if need be...I just didn't want to run out of pump and be able to plumb the return easy with out having to worry about eating up to much flow. I was going to use a 75gal for the sump but since my stand was built not quite how I wanted http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214743
I can fit a 55 in there now....so it will be a 55gal built like this more or less.

I was also going to run 2 xp3's for mech/chem only so I could have 2 intake points...but I dont know if I can fit them now seeing how the stand room came out...might have to go to a single canister like a fx5 or something.

So for the 55gal sump I was going to have the bulkhead on the back corner of the tank rather than the side...hence the need for the extra 90.

thoughts?

It will work, but can you go to 2" and 45* ell's? It's really better to have the smoothest flow (especially on intake where turbulence is critical at these rates).

I dont know yet....I need to go take some measurements in the stand to see what I have to work with. I also thought about a long sweep 90 but I dont know if I have the room. Would two 45's be better than a long sweep 90? I wonder what takes up less room two 45's or one long sweep 90? If I have the room for 2" I might do that anyway as to not choke the pump or cause any cavitation. The pump manuf says its ok to restrict the pump flow after the pump but not before....

Since space is so tight and this is for freshwater, why not use a submersible in the sump rather than an external? The added benefit is the pump will be water cooled which will reduce the heating costs.

Damn , beat me to it.

I already have the reeflo...and the 2 xp3's lol. All I was waiting on was the stand and canopy and then I was going to set it up. And i'll have 800w of MH light...I am trying not to extra heat the water at this point lol. But thanks for the idea!

Well after much thought I decided to try to talk to the place that I ordered the Barracuda from (aquacave.com). It has been a few months since I ordered it so I didn't think he would let me return it. Well they are letting me return it and I think im going to use two Mag 18's in its place. I should still be able to get my 2000gph total.
