Okay - my hubby is paranoid (and I suppose he's justified) but Im going to look at a killer deal on a 90gal tank today and I REALLY would like to set it up in our living room. (we currently have a 46 set up there)

Heres the issue - Our living room is on the 2nd floor (hardwood floors) he is worried that the floors are not going to support the weight of the tank. So he is insisting that I put the tank in the basment on the carpeted concrete floor.

We never spend any time i nthe basment so I'd rather not have the tank down there (granted I might spend more time down there if we put the tank there... but I dont want to)

I have seen many people have a whole room stacked with tanks and they dont seem to have any problems so I would just like some feedback thanks!

one thing that you could do if your worried is just have an oversized stand for the tank that will spead the weight of tank over more of your floor joists and not put so much stress oon your floor..... (the same thing that footings do for your house.... if you understand that)

depending on the age of the house i wouldnt be to worried about it. the oversized stand idea is probably one of the easiest things you can do. also pick a foundation wall, or exterior wall. at this location there will be a lot les sway in the house allowing the tank to be in a much more stable area.

A 200lb man puts about 1.5-2psi on the floor. A 90 gallon tank will put roughly 1.3-1.4psi on the floor. I would not worry about point pressure or get an oversized stand. The floor *should* do just fine.
I agree about finding a load bearing wall to put it near.

I agree an outside wall or a load bearing wall would be ideal.
