Hello MFK`s

I`m gonna change my 90 gallon turtle tank into a CA/SA cichlid tank, as of now i have a breeding pair of convicts in a 20 gallon thats going in... and today i stopped by the local LFS and saw a nice looking pair of JD`s that i got him to hold off for me.

The tank dimentions are 130 x 50 x 50 CM, wich i roughly 90 gallons, and running two Fluval 305 canister filters right now.

Any ideas of what else i could add ?
What i want is to see breeding behavior from the convicts/JD`s/other fish but i dont really want any fry out it. Some agression wouldent be a bad thing either. Dont want to kill fish, but a bit of life and action is what I`m looking for.

Cheers

Not sure if the JD pair will tolerate the cons

Might get lucky tho. I'd wait til they're settled in to see if adding more is even a possibility.

Good Luck

I made an agreement with the owner of the LFS that i could bring back either pair if i had problems. But i think the JD`s are pretty mellow. They are in a tank with a pair of huge cons and a few other cichlids at the lfs.... dont know if they dont show their agression because of the overstocked tank that they are in, at the LFS ?

Could Hemichromis Bimaculatus (jewel cichild)be an option for the tank or are they a bit to gentle ? maybe firemouth`s ?

IME I prefer to gage a fish's agression after he/she/they are in my tank. A change in scenery may trigger a change in behavior, so I'd play it safe and see exactly what kind of "community" you have with the 4 of them. 2 breeding pairs of cichlids = a LOT of agression in most cases I'd imagine. So if the JD's seem chill now, that could change.

Also, is the JD pair a real mated pair... or are you just referring to them as a pair cause there are 2 of them? I would expect a lot of agression toward any tank mates, if they even thought about spawning in there.

I wonder what others will say. I would love to seek it work out for you, but id get more opinions if I were you as I've never attempted to keep 2 mated pair together before.

Good luck
