sorry to disappoint you guys, but this isnt a building thread, its a question thread and then maybe building (in the coming months). I am planning on making a plywood aquarium,as stated. My problem is that epoxy (for the inside of the tank) is really pricey. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a cheap and decent epoxy or using Styrofoam then a pond liner.

Thanks in advance and be patient with me, since i am only 16 and on an allowance.

If you are thinking of building in the 90-150 gallon range I would think about buying a used glass tank. If you watch Craigslist and the local Shopper ads you could find a tank for considerably less than it would cost to build. If you can find one that leaks but has no cracks you could buy it cheap and reseal it for $7.00 worth of silicone and some elbow grease.

already looked, people are insane were im from. the cheapest tank in craigslist in my area is a 55 gal with hood for 125$, im just considering making one because i think it would be cheaper

That is steep! I'd sell you an 80 gallon for that price if you lived out here...

Good luck, keep searching. Try the newspapers, the internet is a seller's market.

keep looking for a used tank. Otherwise you will spend twice as much for a tank that will look a tenth as good and last a tenth as long.

With time and patience you will find an affordable one.

id be willing to make a 150 gallon tank if i find some cheap epoxy/or if i could use a pond liner

I hear you on trying to find cheap tanks. I had to travel to find some decent ones.

You have some alternatives to building smaller tanks. One is to use hardiboard and drylock as the sealant. There are also drop in polypropylene liners that can be made to fit certain shapes. I investigated these and decided for less than 125g it was better to just buy the tank used.

Good luck,

Steve.
