Hello all,
I am in the process of downsizing from my 180 to a 90 due to moving. Im trying to figure out what to get for the new 90.

I am very interested in a Midas and was curious if I could add a Carpinte with it. I also have a vieja Syn, which I could part with if needed. I know All three probably wont work. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!! I am looking for color and fish that are owner responsive.

Thanks.

Thanks.

90Gallon= 48"L x 18"W x 24"T

I dont know why but my Synspilum is very skitish. Not sure if its the other tankmates (dempseys) or what. Would he fight with another Vieja?

Other opinions?

I was also juggling the possibilities of a Female Festae or a pair of Nicaraguens. Still trying to find more info on them.

Have a 40 gallon breeder I will be putting my Pair of Dempseys in.

Theres just too many options!! :grinno:

Give me some input/feedback/comments!!!!
Also anyone owning any of the fish I have mentioned thusfar, what you like about them, how aggressive and owner responsive.

Thanks!!!

An adult male midas probably won't play nice with anything else in a 48x18" tank.

Could a Pair with a divider work?

I saw somewhere someone did that and put small holes for the female to get away from the male, and the male was too big to fit through the divider holes.

I am trying to avoid one fish alone in a tank.

You can do it for a while, but in 4-5 years, an adult male midas is going to be 13-14" if cared for properly. A female will be 6-8" if she's been spawning constantly. Adding a divider isn't going to leave either fish much room!

The one in your avatar looks nice. Do you keep him alone or have a large tank?

Could some convicts (or my HRP's) work with plenty of hiding places, or will they be hunted down and killed within a couple years?

What about the combo of a Festae and Carpinte (no midas)

He's alone in a 75g. The photo in my avatar is almost 2 years old now. He's somewhere between 13-14" and very territorial. Once he hit 9-10", I had to start taking rocks & clay pots out of the tank. He was using them to small the glass. Plastic plants would last a week at most.

Every fish will have its own personality. You may get lucky, but IME, I wouldn't try mixing in anything else with one.
